Richard Lampert
is a leader of STM publishing programs with over 30 years of experience, blending a continuing interest in hands-on acquisitions
with management and executive roles. Before establishing a consulting practice,
Rich was Vice President, Global Surgery, at Elsevier, generating some $50 million in global sales within the $900 million
Health Science Division. In four years, sales of that publishing program grew
by 50%, spurred by an increased use of electronic media (particularly Web and PDA), and aggressive efforts to grow book publishing
programs in strategic specialties.
Rich started his career as editor for biology textbooks at W. B. Saunders, managing a program that spanned markets from non-majors
through graduate students. Later in his career, Rich managed editorial programs
at Appleton-Century-Crofts and Year Book Medical Publishers, organized and managed the Continuity Publishing Division of Mosby-Year
Book, and subsequently led the reinvigoration of the publishing program at J.B. Lippincott Company.
Rich founded
The Lampert Consultancy, LLC, in 2004, working with dozens of clients on projects related to publishing strategy, e-publishing
strategy, editorial plans, editorial acquisitions, distributor relations, and marketing.
Rich graduated from Drexel University and
earned a Master's degree in chemical engineering from University of California, Berkeley.
